Get Up to 10 QuotesWhat coverage should you review?
Nonprofit childcare and camp operators should review board decisions and staffing allegations separately from safeguarding, professional services and participant injury. EPL does not automatically cover every parent or child complaint.
Provident Financial Group is an independent insurance agency. Coverage depends on policy terms, exclusions and the facts. This is general information, not legal advice.

Why Nonprofit Childcare & Camps Face Distinct Exposure
Enrollment rules, program closures and funding commitments can lead families or funders to question board authority. Document approvals and distinguish nonprofit operation from a government-run program.
Seasonal counselors, teachers, aides and volunteers require clear supervision. Complaints about assignments, accommodations or reporting safety concerns can raise employment questions; licensing and safeguarding duties remain separate.
Children’s records and emergency contacts may be held across registration vendors and staff devices. Identify access, retention practices and responsibilities for a vendor incident before comparing cyber terms.
Common Claim Scenarios
Hypothetical examples, not reports of actual claims. Coverage depends on the allegations, facts and policy terms.
Program closure challenged
Families allege directors ignored the organization’s approval process when closing an early-learning program.
Counselor alleges retaliation
A counselor alleges nonrenewal followed a report about supervision practices.
Registration information exposed
A compromised registration account reveals family contact and emergency information.
Recommended Coverages
Management liability lines to review against your organization's actual activities and policy terms.
Directors & Officers Insurance
Review board and entity protection for covered governance allegations involving the activities described above; exclusions and insured definitions matter.
Employment Practices Insurance
Review paid staff, applicants and other worker relationships; volunteer disputes and third-party claims are not automatically covered.
Cyber Liability Insurance
Map the records and systems described above, including vendor access; assess covered privacy, incident-response and interruption provisions.
Fiduciary Liability Insurance
Where covered employee-benefit plans exist, review plan fiduciary duties separately from business or nonprofit board duties and any required fidelity bond.
What to Think About Before You Buy
Structure matters as much as price. These are the points we walk through with nonprofit childcare & camps before placing coverage.
- Disclose ages served, overnight programs and transportation.
- Review safeguarding and participant-injury coverage separately.
- Identify seasonal worker and volunteer definitions.
- Ask whether third-party harassment or discrimination coverage is included.
Nonprofit Childcare & Camps Insurance FAQs
Does nonprofit D&O cover abuse allegations at a camp?
Do not assume it does. Abuse-related protection, participant injury and service-specific liability need separate review; D&O and EPL exclusions may apply even when managers are named.
Are seasonal camp counselors insured under EPL?
Only if the policy’s insured and employee definitions apply. Identify paid, volunteer, temporary and contractor relationships and confirm coverage before relying on it.
Does EPL cover a parent’s complaint?
A parent is not automatically an employment claimant. A third-party extension may address defined harassment or discrimination allegations, not every admission, service or safety dispute.
Can nonprofit and commercial daycares use the same D&O form?
Their ownership and governance differ. Identify the actual entity type so nonprofit-board coverage is not mistaken for private-company management coverage.
